Who We Are

The Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival is a juried showcase for some of the world's best short films, receiving submissions from across Canada and United States, as well as Europe, South America, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan.

Cabbagetown resident, Gina Dineen, a Toronto actress, producer, and York University Film School graduate, founded the festival in 1992. Since then, the festival has grown substantially from a celebration of local filmmakers to one of the best fringe festivals in the country.

Located in the heart of Toronto, Canada, Cabbagetown is an eclectic, economically diverse, multicultural and artistic neighbourhood which attracts thousands of visitors each September to the Annual Cabbagetown Festival. www.oldcabbagetown.com

The two-hour Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival screening includes an equally diverse program of original productions shot on 35mm, 16mm, Super-8 and digital videos. They need not be premieres, nor made in the year of the festival, but they cannot exceed 15 minutes in length. A panel of industry professionals juries the entries and awards prizes in each category including comedy, drama, experimental, animation, and documentary.

Because all selected productions are screened using the submitted NTSC DVD format, there is no entry fee.

The Cabbagetown Short Film & Video Festival celebrates excellence and is a rare gem in the world of film festivals.
